This flax and berry smoothie is nutty, creamy, and a delicious way to start your day! Packed with fiber and protein, thanks to ground flax and heart-healthy almond butter.
I think it’s because I can feel spring coming. The days are longer, the weather is warming, flowers are just starting to peek their heads out of the ground. Most importantly, all of the snow has melted.
I’ve been craving fresh, spring flavors. Like berries, for example.
I dream of going berry picking and bearing home berries upon berries, destined for pies and tarts and crumbles and cobblers.
And, of course, for eating as-is, in their pure and delicious natural state.
For now, I’ll settle for some organic frozen berries and happily resume my spring dreaming.
I love this flax and berry smoothie for so many reasons—one of the more superficial being the color. But the gorgeous, deeply purple hue makes me happy.
The other reasons are more sound and health based.
This smoothie is one of my favorite morning pick-me-ups. Almond butter gives it a good dose of protein, healthy fat, vitamin E, and iron. Ground flax adds additional fiber, antioxidants, and omega-3 fatty acids. Berries also lend to the antioxidant benefits of this smoothie.
I actually almost always put ground flax in my smoothies. It’s so hard to get your daily recommended amount of fiber, and flax definitely helps that. It gives my smoothie a protein and fiber lift that helps me stay full for longer and is a great post work-out option. Flax is also amazing for your skin, hair, heart, cholesterol, and even menopause. Plus, this flax and berry smoothie is delicious. There’s a smoothie shop near my therapist’s office (yes, I go to therapy. #reallife #noshame) that makes an amazing Peanut Butter and Jelly Smoothie. I’m sure it’s not the best for you, but wow is it good. This smoothie is kind of my ode to it, but a bit healthier. It’s still nutty, creamy, sweet, fruity, and refreshing.
A bit of Chia seeds and floral honey round out this dairy-free smoothie for good measure.

- 1 cup almond milk
- 1 tablespoon almond butter
- ½ frozen banana
- ½ cup frozen mixed berries
- 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 1-2 teaspoons Chia seeds
- Place everything in a high-speed blender and blend until smooth and creamy. Enjoy!
