Do you struggle to fit in all the water consumption you know you should be drinking daily?
Between kids, work, and basic day to day responsibilities, small tasks such as drinking enough water can get overlooked. However, the benefits of drinking water will blow your mind. I’m not just talking the basic benefits we all know about. I’m talking about the deeper, amazing benefits of drinking water many are unaware of.
I never really kept track of exactly how much water I was drinking a day until I recently invested in a smart water bottle. I find it so helpful that I’m giving away one on Instagram right now too, so head over and enter!
8 Benefits of Drinking Water
Boosts Your Immune System
It sounds crazy that something such as water, tasteless and void of nutrients, can boost your immune system. However, water facilitates in carrying oxygen to the red blood cells in our body. Healthy and well-oxygenated red blood cells means healthier systems throughout our body. This includes the immune system. With a healthier immune system, the body is able to more easily fight off intrusions.
Flushes Toxins
Many of us have been told to drink a lot of water when we are sick. This is because water does an amazing job of flushing toxins out of our system. The kidneys work as a filtration system for our blood. The kidneys can not do their job if they are not properly “fueled” by water consumption. Water allows the kidneys to flush what they’ve collected out of the body naturally. When you’re sick, your body has more toxins than usual and needs more water to keep up with the extra work.
Keeps Bowels Regular
Yes, I said the word bowels. Anyway, one of the greatest benefits of drinking water is the fact that it keeps you regular. This means constipation will be less of an issue. Constipation can lead to many other issues if left untreated, but it’s a fairly common issue for people and is usually easy to treat. Water is a natural lubricant that keeps everything, well, running smoothly. If the colon does not receive the water it needs every day, it can dry out. This results in constipation and can lead to other health concerns within a short amount of time.
Increases Brain Power
So, you know how I mentioned earlier that water carries nutrients and oxygen to various parts of the body? Well, that includes the brain. That’s right, water carries the correct nutrients to the brain which then allows the brain to flush toxins. If the brain is properly hydrated, it can flush toxins and receive the correct nutrients more fluidly, resulting in a peak performing brain. Studies show that even mild dehydration can impair brain function, causing increased headaches, poor mood, and decreased energy and concentration.
Increases Energy
One of my favorite benefits of drinking water is the fact that it provides you with more energy. Who needs coffee, right? I’m just kidding, I’m never giving up my coffee. Water is vital to your body because it makes up about three quarters of it. If not replenished, it’s like trying to drive a car without oil. The phrase “a well-oiled machine” easily fits in with this scenario. Water in and of itself does not provide energy to the body. However, water aids the metabolism which is a vital function for the body to produce energy. Therefore, water acts as the oil that keeps the body pumping at its best.
Natural Appetite Suppressant
When consumed, water actually assists you in feeling fuller. When the body feels full, your appetite is calmed. This makes it easier to avoid bad cravings and easier to eat less. So, I suppose you could say water is a natural appetite suppressant. Scientists have said that drinking a glass of water before eating a meal assists you in sticking to smaller portions. Studies have shown that drinking half a liter of water before meals can increase weight loss by up to 44%.
Protects Muscles
One of the top benefits of drinking water is the fact that it helps protect muscles from injury. When your body is dehydrated, it can cause many symptoms, including muscle cramps. Dry muscles are also more susceptible to sprains and tears. However, when a muscle is properly hydrated, it’s not easily sprained or injured. Further, you will rarely run into a muscle cramp if you are properly hydrated.
Improves Complexion
Your skin is an organ, and just like all organs in your body, water is incredibly important to it. When you are dehydrated, even slightly, this shows on the outside as well as in. Without enough water, skin becomes dry, tight, and more prone to wrinkling. Drinking plenty of water not only flushes out toxins from your skin, but keeps skin looking radiant, youthful, and hydrated.
The benefits of drinking water are countless.
The body heavily relies on water to function properly. Without it, many issues quickly start to rise, from our energy levels to the clarity of our skin to our overall mood.
I’m doing my best to remember these benefits so I’m encouraged to stay on top of my water consumption every day. What are your favorite ways to stick to your hydration goals?

My family just moved close to a city and my kids don’t like the taste of the water, so I wanted some tips since we do have a well! I didn’t know your colon could dry out if you don’t drink enough water and you could get constipated. That’s something I wouldn’t want for my family, so I’ll look more into well water and a reputable well service I could hire!
I never knew that kidneys needed water to flush toxins out of the body! I definitely should start drinking more water to keep my kidneys and other organs functioning properly. My husband and I are hoping to get a water well on our ranch property, so that would definitely make it easier to keep up with water intake when we’re out there for weeks at a time instead of depending on water bottles.
I find it cool when you said that drinking water regularly can help the kidneys flush out harmful toxins better, especially if one is sick. With that, I will look for a local delivery service to supply water for my mother’s house. That way, she can keep herself hydrated enough to help her tend to her garden while strengthening her immune system.
