This Devil’s Dark and Stormy Punch is the perfect Halloween libation. Pair it with a spooky glam tablescape for the ultimate party decor.
It’s so funny how our holidays change as we get older.
I used to go all out for Halloween. I would create elaborate costumes every year and spend a whole week celebrating at parties and events. I would host quite the few parties myself, many centered around a fun, spooky, festive, almost-always-black-or-orange drink.
Now, at the lovely age of 31, my perfect Halloween is spent inside handing out candy. After many, many years of apartment life, we finally live in a house and actually get Trick-or-Treaters! And a lot of them, too. Last year I created goodie bags filled with candy, fun pencils, spider rings, healthy snacks, pumpkin erasers, witch fingers, and stickers. The kids were so amazed and excited to get bags, so of course I have to do it again this year.
My Halloween festivities now include making epic Trick-or-Treat bags, watching scary movies every night for two weeks before Halloween, pumpkin and apple picking, dressing up my dog, and pumpkin carving with wine. And you know what? I love it.
Even though my holidays have changed quite a bit over the years, I couldn’t be happier with the cozy, happy life I have created.
One thing that hasn’t changed, though? I still love my festive drinks.
Sure, my parties are much quieter now, but they still deserve a fantastic libation or two.
I love hosting small pumpkin carving get-togethers during Halloween, complete with scary movies and fun, festive food and drinks.
One of my favorite ways to do this is to create a spooky punch. Last week I bought this punch bowl (had to have it, isn’t it gorgeous?) alongside a bunch of candy, toys, and goodies for my infamous Trick-or-Treat bags. The woman behind me in line smiled. “Spooky punch?” She asked. You know it.
Creating this spooky Devil’s Dark and Stormy Punch is really fun, makes for great presentation, and is easy as can be.
To spook-ify any punch, you only need four things: a punch bowl, another smaller bowl (to fit inside), dry ice, and warm water.
Dry ice can be easily found at just about any grocery store. It makes an amazing creepy, misty effect that’s perfect for Halloween festivities. Just place the dry ice in the larger bowl and ‘activate’ it by pouring in some warm water. Always be careful when handling dry ice (use gloves and tongs) and never put dry ice directly into any beverage that you’re going to drink. The smaller bowl will hold the punch. The bowl should fit inside nicely with room around the sides to let the mist escape. If the bowl doesn’t quite fit, I like to use a small ramekin or bowl, placed upside down on the bottom of the larger bowl. This lets the smaller bowl stay level with the larger.
I choose to make Dark and Stormy Punch for my spooky punch because it’s delicious and it’s so easy. Fresh lime, dark rum, ginger beer, and a bit of simple syrup make a spicy, tasty punch. Minimal ingredients and very little effort.
Bacardi is my go-to rum of choice for this Dark and Stormy Punch. Their iconic bat symbol makes this punch even more spooky! I love using both Bacardi Gold and Bacardi Superior in my cocktails, and I go for the Gold here as that’s more traditional to a Dark and Stormy.
I love to create a simple glam Halloween tablescape to pair with my Devil’s Dark and Stormy Punch.
To create this look, place some black netted fabric on the table. Make your primary colors black, orange, gold, and silver, using metallics where you can. Light plenty of candles in varying heights, from candlesticks to tealights. Add some lace pumpkins or metallic pumpkins. Finally, add a few sparkly ornaments and matte black pieces.
Who knew something this spooky could taste so good?!

I love the way you set up the decorations. While we don’t drink, I would love to make a virgin version of this and serve it at our upcoming party.

My Great-Grandparents were born in Puerto Rico which is where Bacardi has their Headquarters, have you ever been to PR and taken the Rum Factory Tour at the Bacardi Rum Factory? It’s AWESOME!
Happy Halloween, and Cheers! 🙂
Many things in life change as we grow older. I also used to enjoy getting candies and treats, but now I hand them out. So, we really should cherish times as we go through them.
